About
Pilates Is Health is an independent blog about one question: what can Pilates realistically do for your health? We write for ordinary bodies. People with a stiff back from desk work, people coming back from an injury or surgery, new parents rebuilding strength after pregnancy, older adults who want to feel steadier on their feet, and complete beginners who are not sure whether a reformer class is for them.
What we cover
- Pilates basics: what the method is, how classes work, and what the core principles mean in practice.
- Back and posture: low back pain, neck and shoulder tension, and why there is no single perfect posture.
- Rehab and recovery: how Pilates can fit alongside physical therapy, and when it should wait.
- Life stages: pregnancy, the postpartum period, menopause and later life.
- Equipment and studios: mat versus reformer, home equipment, and choosing a class or instructor.
- Mind and breath: breathing patterns, attention and winding down.
How we approach health topics
We try to describe what the evidence broadly shows, and we say plainly when it is limited or mixed. Pilates is a form of exercise. It can help many people feel stronger, more mobile and more confident in how they move. It is not a cure for any condition, and nothing on this site is a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Every article ends with signs that mean you should talk to a doctor or physical therapist first.
Our articles are written by the Editorial Team. We do not publish invented experts, credentials, patient stories, statistics or quotes. You can read exactly how articles are drafted and checked in our editorial policy.
Independence
Pilates Is Health is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), or to any Pilates studio, equipment maker, certification body or training school. We do not sell classes, equipment or supplements, and we do not run advertising or affiliate links.
A note about this domain
From around 2012 to 2022 the address pilatesishealth.com was used by the Pilates Method Alliance for a different website that collected Pilates stories. That site is gone, and it has no connection to us. This is a new, separate publication that started in October 2026. If you arrived through an old link looking for the former site, its content is not available here.
